Alan Greenspan - NYU's Economic Outlook

Alan Greenspan is honored by NYU President John Sexton at a Ceremony in 2005
Alan Greenspan is famous for being the Chairman of the Federal Reserve for close to twenty years. His vast knowledge of economics came from his college education at NYU in 1945. He attended NYU's School of Commerce (now known as them. Stern School of Business). At NYU he received a B.S. in economics summa cum laude and also an M.A. in economics.

In 1977, Greenspan received a Ph.D. in economics from NYU. His dissertation is not available because it was removed at Greenspan's request in 1987, when he became Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. However, one copy has been found, and the 'introduction includes a discussion of soaring housing prices and their effect on consumer spending; it even anticipates a bursting housing bubble'.

This year it was announced that Stern will apply $5 million of John Paulson’s gift to the school to support an endowed chair named for alumnus Alan Greenspan.
